iPost adds “revenue doctor” to its board

Investigative Post has added Kevin Davis, an internationally recognized authority on non-profit newsrooms, to its board of directors.

The Investigative Post board also re-elected David Cay Johnston as president at its annual meeting July 14. Johnston is a Pulitzer Prize winner and the past president of Investigative Reporters & Editors.

Robert Skerker was re-elected vice president and treasurer. Catharine Miles-Kania was elected secretary.

Davis is the former executive director and CEO of the Investigative News Network, a consortium of more than 100 nonprofit newsrooms across the United States, including Investigative Post. Davis grew the organization from a budget of $400,000 to more than $3 million during his five years with INN, which was recently renamed the Institute for Nonprofit News.

“I’m very excited that Kevin has agreed to join our board. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help us continue our growth into a vibrant and sustainable organization,” said Jim Heaney, editor and executive director of Investigative Post.

“Nonprofit news organizations like the Investigative Post are filling essential gaps in civic and community news left by the pull-back in hard-hitting, investigative and accountability journalism,” said Davis.

“Buffalo and the larger area of Western New York are unique markets with specific information needs that the Investigative Post is here to meet.”

Davis, who resides in Los Angeles, operates KLJD Consulting, which assists news organizations and information companies develop their business. He describes himself in his Twitter profile as “a revenue doctor for news and information businesses in search of increased impact and more diverse revenue.”

Prior to his stint at INN, Davis spent more than 20 years as a publisher and digital business entrepreneur. His career has included stints at Variety.com, Hollywood.com and TheWrap.com.

Investigative Post is a non-profit investigative reporter center based in Buffalo. Its reporting reached an accumulated audience of 7.1 million last year through its website, investigativepost.org, WGRZ and Artvoice.
