Lake Erie’s “50 and 2 Rule”

Lake Erie holds 2 percent of the water but 50 percent of the fish. That may be a rough estimate, but the director of Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory told Michigan Public Radio that the “50 and 2 Rule” is an example of how each of the five lakes have their own unique characteristics.

Locals voted against more casinos

Proposition One was approved by voters statewide, but a majority of the electorate casting ballots in Erie and Niagara counties opposed the expansion of casino gambling. The proposition also failed to carry the counties that are home to Rochester, Syracuse and Albany.

Major developers vying for Buffalo project

A half-dozen firms, including some of the region’s most prominent developers, have entered the competition to build economic development hubs the Cuomo administration has proposed for Buffalo, Investigative Post has learned. Firms responding to a request for proposals include LP Ciminelli Inc., Uniland Development and Acquest Development. Others submitting proposals include McGuire Development, TM Montante Development and Mark Balling on behalf of Lend Lease, an international contracting and finance firm.
