Last chance to double your money

Our annual drive is winding down. If you’d still like to contribute, donations must be made by midnight Thursday to be eligible for matching dollars.

We’ve had a successful campaign thus far. Last year, match-eligible donations of up to $1,000 totaled $23,312. Those donations this November and December, through Tuesday, come to $35,727. Those donations will be matched, dollar for dollar, by supporters that include NewsMatch, the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, Try-It Distributing and the Mulroy Family Foundation.

Our total donations for November and December total $84,353, including contributions over $1,000. That tops last year’s income for the same period.

We’re grateful for the show of support, especially in these difficult economic times. It tells us our readers value the work we do. If you’ve already donated, we thank you.

We encourage you to donate if you haven’t already, as we’ve got big plans for 2021 that carry a big price tag.

Our projected budget for the coming year is $599,780, up from an estimated $370,000 for the current year. We’ve embarked on an ambitious growth plan intended to expand our coverage and further secure our financial future. The details are spelled out in our Journalism Worth A Million campaign.

We may be the only news organization in Western New York that’s growing both staff and audience. In recent months we’ve hired a videographer to produce our stories for WGRZ, engaged a data analyst to assist our reporting, started producing podcasts and partnered with WBEN News Radio 930 and the University at Buffalo Civil Rights and Transparency Clinic.

Next week we’ll announce the addition of two reporters to our staff. Shortly thereafter we’ll launch a YouTube channel, increase our podcast offerings and expand our social media presence.

Your donation made by midnight Thursday will go towards funding that growth. The payoff will be more hard hitting, fact based reporting from us.

You can donate online or mail us a check, dated no later than Dec. 31, addressed to 487 Main St., Suite 300, Buffalo, N.Y. 14203.

If you haven’t voted already, you can still participate in our online poll to select Investigative Post’s best story of 2020. We’d appreciate hearing from you.
