Heaney discusses Bills stadium on ‘Pressroom

Published by

David Lombardo interviewed Investigative Post Editor Jim Heaney on the latest developments on the Buffalo Bills stadium on The Capitol Pressroom. His remarks drew on the reporting of J. Dale Shoemaker and Mark Scheer. Heaney explained how the project has come up short – costly to taxpayers, remotely located and not designed to meet the green standards common to other NFL stadiums built in the past decade. There’s also the matter of a lease that doesn’t necessarily bind the team to Buffalo for the long-run.

Heaney talks police contract on ‘Pressroom

Published by

Following up on Geoff Kelly’s report last week, Jim Heaney talks about provisions of Buffalo’s contract with its police union that make it difficult to discipline officers and deprive the department’s leadership of many management rights. Heaney, speaking on The Capitol Pressroom,  noted that while Mayor Byron Brown has harshly criticized the union and its contract for being an obstacle to reform, city negotiators have failed to propose changes.

Heaney talks Buffalo finances on “Pressroom”

Published by

Jim Heaney and Susan Arbetter discuss City Hall’s ongoing fiscal problems which, among other things, has resulted in the failure to buy police squad cars so the department has an adequate fleet of vehicles. Capitol Pressroom announced Thursday that Susan is leaving the program the end of Octobers. I’ve appeared on the program regularly since January 2016 – 48 times, to be precise – and have thoroughly enjoyed working with Susan. She’s knowledgable and always prepared – a real pro. I hope we have an opportunity to collaborate again in the future.

OTB protecting its perks

Published by

The regional Off Track Betting Corporation has a story – two stories, actually – and they’re sticking to them. Officials there continue to insist that the OTB is authorized to provide health, dental and vision insurance free of charge to its board of directors. Gold-plated insurance, described to me by one health insurance expert as “literally the richest plan available.” I reported in December that the state Attorney General issued an opinion in 2008 that appears to conclude that OTBs are not permitted to provide health insurance coverage to board members. President Henry Wojtaszek responded by pledging to ask the[...]
