Spotlight reporter’s dismay over clerical abuse

Matt Carroll has something to say about the sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests. And he said it Wednesday here in Buffalo. He was a reporter on The Boston Globe Spotlight team that produced more than 600 stories on the topic in 2002-03. He and his colleagues won a Pulitzer Prize and were later the subject of the Academy Award winning film “Spotlight.” Carroll spoke to an audience of about 140 on Wednesday at an event at 166 Chandler sponsored by Investigative Post. Associated Press honors iPost reporting

Investigative Post’s reporting for television and radio has been cited for excellence by the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association. A story on Eighteen Mile Creek, reported by Dan Telvock and co-produced with WGRZ TV News, won second place in the investigative category for large upstate markets. Eighteen Mile Creek in Niagara County is so polluted that the state Department of Health doesn’t want people to eat the fish caught there. Telvock’s ECWA report on Shredd and Ragan

The water authority responded to Investigative Post’s reporting with a campaign that included misleading statements and unsubstantiated claims.
