Investigative Post event series is back on
Investigative Post is relaunching its event series with three programs scheduled for November and December.
We took a long break as a result of the pandemic and have staged a handful of events the last couple of years, including popular benefit shows at Sportsmen’s Tavern featuring Tom Toles and Junkman’s Choir. Our plan is to stage events at least once a month.
We recently brought Seamus Gallivan onboard to manage our events. His LinkedIn profile describes him as a “social connecter specializing in events, media, and community engagement.” Seamus is perhaps best known for his role in establishing Slow Roll Buffalo, as well as coordinating events in Larkin Square and as a longtime freelance contributor to The Buffalo News. He now runs Reconnecter and serves as alumni engagement coordinator at The Park School of Buffalo.
Here’s what we have planned for the balance of the year:
- On Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo (695 Elmwood Ave.), J. Dale Shoemaker will recap his reporting on ICE activity in Western New York, followed by a panel discussion with experts about ICE and immigration. Panelists include Jennifer Connor, Executive Director of Justice for Migrant Families; Pamela Bos Kefi, CEO of Journey’s End Refugee Services; and Brittany Triggs, immigration attorney with the Erie County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project.
- We’re launching a quarterly book club that will kick off on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. with a discussion on The Death of Truth by Steven Brill. Alternating bookstores will host the talks, starting with our friend Aaron Bartley at his Fitz Books (1462 Main St.). We encourage you to buy the book at Fitz, Talking Leaves … Books, or any other independent bookstore. No Amazon, please.
- On Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. – Geoff Kelly and I will interview mayor-in-waiting Sean Ryan in the auditorium of the Burchfield Penney Art Center (1300 Elmwood Ave.), serving as the centerpiece of the museum’s Second Fridays event series of artistic experiences.
No pre-registration is required for any of the above events. Admission is free, though we’ll ask for your email address so we can stay in touch. Donations will be gratefully accepted.
