Investigative Post launches annual fundraising drive
Good journalism doesn’t come cheap.
Here at Investigative Post, the stories we publish are often weeks, sometimes months, in the making. That’s because we’re doing original reporting that involves complicated issues or topics that people in power want to hide from public view.
Our work requires patience and persistence, and the financial support of the Western New York community.
We don’t sell advertising or charge for access to our website or newsletters. Instead, as a nonprofit, we rely on donations from our readers who value our work and believe in the importance of independent reporting.
We’re in the midst of our annual drive, the time each year when we ask our community to stand with us. As in recent years, donations of up to $1,000 made by Dec. 31 will be matched, thanks to the generosity of NewsMatch, the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, and Try-It Distributing. Your contribution will go twice as far.
We know our readers value our work.Traffic to our website and social media platforms has grown dramatically during the past year. In a survey last year, readers rated the quality of our reporting 4.6 out of a possible 5, almost double the grade they gave other local news outlets.
Readers recognize we’re producing stories they’re hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Over the past year we have reported on the aggressive actions of ICE agents against migrants, the fiscal follies of Buffalo’s City Hall, continued shenanigans at the Western Regional Off Track Betting Corp., and the hit-and-run antics of the Erie County sheriff’s narcotics chief.
Scott Pelley, correspondent with 60 Minutes, proclaimed earlier this year: “You cannot have democracy without journalism.”
To which I’ll add: “There is no Investigative Post without the support of readers like you.”
So please, consider offering your support with a donation this holiday season.
You can donate online or mail us a check at 487 Main St., Suite 300, Buffalo, NY 14203.
