Buffalo Billion criminals get off easy

Published by

Hold up a gas station and you’re looking at a minimum of five years in prison. Get napped with an ounce of crack and the mandatory minimum is five to ten years. Engage in bid rigging, and in the process violate the public’s trust and cost taxpayers potentially million of dollars? If you’re Louis Ciminelli, the sentence is 2 years and 4 months. For Alain Kaloyeros, 3½ years. Minus time off for good behavior, of course. And don’t worry about starting your sentence anytime soon. You’re a free man until you and your high-priced lawyers have exhausted the appeals process.[...]

Heaney talks City Hall on ‘Pressroom

Published by

Susan Arbetter, host of The Capitol Pressroom, told Editor Jim Heaney a recent story by Charlotte Keith produced by Investigative Post made her “angry.” The story documented the failure by the administration of Mayor Byron Brown to enforce the city’s fair housing law. Arbetter’s angst was rooted in the mayor’s indifference to the plight of the city’s poor, who are often discriminated against when they attempt to rent apartments with the help of government assistance such as Section 8. Heaney told her inaction by the city is just the latest example of the mayor turning a blind eye to injustices[...]

Heaney offers his take on corruption trial

Published by

WGRZ anchor Maryalice Demler interviewed Jim Heaney on Friday regarding the Buffalo Billion corruption trial. Heaney discussed what he found striking in the testimony thus far. Also noteworthy, he said, was testimony about the placement of Cuomo operative Todd Howe in the economic development agency headed by Alain Kaloyeros. Heaney said Howe’s involvement raises all sorts of questions about the possible role of[...]
